Proprioception and the timing of motor responses.

چکیده
Two hypotheses that relate motor response timing to proprioceptive feedback are presented, along with specific predictions. The input hypothesis states that the subject uses the inflow of proprioceptive feedback from an earlier portion of a movement sequence to cue the timing of a later portion, and considerable evidence was found to support this point of view. The Adams and Creamer decay hypothesis states that the subject uses the decay of proprioceptive feedback in short-term memory to cue the timing of a latter movement, and only recently has clear support for this view been provided. Finally, there was the possibility that feedback is not used at all, with the timing of the various sequences being programmed.

Proprioception versus motor outflow in timing: a reply to Jones.
Jones' point that the motor outflow hypothesis should be considered a rival to the proprioceptive feedback interpretation of the motor response timing data reviewed by Schmidt has potential merit. However, with no data ruling in favor of motor outflow over proprioceptive feedback for timing, and with other peripheral feedback channels (e.g., vision) known to be mechanisms for timing, the propri...
متن کاملProprioception as a mediator in the timing of motor responses.
The hypothesis that proprioceptive feedback from early portions of a total movement may serve as a cue for the anticipation and timing of a later portion was tested using 48 5s. The right-hand task involved anticipation (with no preview) of the coincidence of a moving and a stationary pointer, and proprioceptive feedback was manipulated by having 5s make a minimal movement or a small or large r...

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the role of working memory capacity and errorless and errorful practice on the learning the relative timing was a motor task. 50 Participants based on were selected aged 22±4 years as accessible samples randomly assigned to one of four groups (errorless low working memory capacity, errorful low working memory capacity, errorless high working me...
متن کاملPredictive Value of Somatosensation for Manual Dexterity and Upper Limb Motor Function in Stroke Survivors
Objectives: One of the most disabling impairments following stroke is upper limb impairment. Despite the important role of somatosensory function in motor control and high prevalence of somatosensory deficits in stroke survivors, little attention has been paid to its effect on UE motor function in chronic stroke survivors. Thus, the aim of this study is to explore the correlation between differ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Knowledge of Result Feedback Timing on Speech Motor Learning in Healthy Adults
Objectives: The current study mainly aimed at studying the effect of Knowledge of Result (KR) feedback timing and result-estimation opportunity before receiving delayed KR on learning a new speech motor skill in monolingual healthy adults. Methods: Thirty-nine Persian healthy adults were randomly divided into three groups. Each group received immediate KR, delayed KR (after eight seconds), or...
